What are the different types of cup competition?

A cup competition can be either a fixed or flexible format.

The fixed format is a straight forward knockout competition where a set number of teams are entered. The number of teams determines the number of rounds and if necessary Byes (byes can only be added to the first round).

If a team loses a game in a fixed cup competition they are knocked out and can’t compete in the next round. Fixed cups are not compatible with our SMS results entry feature.

The flexible format allows for a variable number of fixtures per round. This allows you to add any number of fixtures to any round, whether or not the team progressed from an earlier round. You will need to carry out a draw for each round and byes can not be entered. Another benefit of this format is that it is compatible with our SMS results service.
